AboutDebbie_1.jpg

Debbie Sheldon BSc, Lic Ac, MBAcC

My interest in Chinese medicine started in 2013 after experiencing its benefits on a personal level. Ever since, I have been focusing on enhancing my knowledge and nurturing my skills in the field of complementary medicine.

In 2018, I completed a four-year Bachelor of Science Honours programme at the College of Integrated Chinese medicine, one of the leading acupuncture institutions in the UK and accredited by Kingston University London.
I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), which is the largest professional body of acupuncturists in the UK and guarantees safe practice and codes of conduct and excellence in training.

I combine Five Elements acupuncture, which aims to treat the deepest constitutional  imbalance of a person, and traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, which aims to treat a wide range of symptoms and conditions, both acute and chronic. This integration allows me to treat patients on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.

In general, in my practice, I treat a broad spectrum of illnesses; however I hold a special interest in the areas of women’s health, infertility, pain management, stress related conditions, cosmetic acupuncture and digestive problems. I believe that the body holds the ability to heal itself if it is given the right, balanced environment and that this can be achieved by combining acupuncture with dietary and life style advice.

Classical Acupuncture is one of the most effective and accepted forms of healing in Chinese medicine.
This ancient medicine acknowledges the endless capability of the body to renew and heal itself.

The symptoms and diseases that we experience are the body's expression, telling us something deeper.
By observing signs and symptoms, the acupuncturist can diagnose the root of the problem and help

to balance the body, the mind and the spirit, prevent disease and improve quality of life and well being.

Acupuncture is performed by inserting disposable, fine and sterile needles into points along the body

which have been carefully selected after a full diagnosis has been taken. Each point has a specific

influence on the body’s functions; by using a combination of points the acupuncturist can create

a more balanced, energetic environment which can aid the body to heal its own damaged areas and

return to a healthier state. There are thousands of acupuncture points. The main points are

located along 14 energetic channels (meridians) which run across the body. There are additional

techniques which are used alongside acupuncture. These include: cupping, moxibustion, guasha,

electro-acupuncture, massage and essential oils.

Acupuncture is safe to use and is suitable for patients of all ages.

WHAT IS IT?

Cosmetic acupuncture is a natural treatment used for skin rejuvenation. It involves the insertion of fine needles into different parts of the face. This helps to promote the renewal of skin cells, collagen formation and skin vitality. Cosmetic acupuncture encourages the flow of essential energy (Qi), blood and body fluids, thus, giving the skin a more healthy and youthful look and slowing down the aging process.

FACIAL MASSAGE

Facial massage, also known as a natural, non-surgical face lift treatment, helps to relieve muscle tension by loosening tight facial muscles. The facial massage also relaxes the entire body and has general healing effects due to the use acupressure points and other massage techniques such as a jade roller and facial cupping. The combination of all the facial massage techniques enhance the flow of blood, body fluids and Qi, energizes and promotes new and healthy cell growth.

WHAT CAN IT DO?

Patients report the following improvements:

  • Radiant skin

  • Reduced visibility of fine lines and wrinkles

  • Reduced visibility of acne scars, sun and age spots

  • Reduced visibility of open pores

  • Improved skin elasticity

  • Improved muscle tone

  • Relaxation and general health

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING TREATMENT
An initial assessment of your medical history, life style
and any underlying health issues is taken during
the first treatment.
Most patients report noticing changes after a few treatments, therefore, a course of 6-10 sessions is recommended in order to maximize results. After the initial course of treatments, maintenance sessions are advised in order to prolong the results achieved.

There are a number of different treatment techniques used to create a more balanced internal environment, these include:

Cupping.png

Needles

The needles used in acupuncture treatments are extremely different then the needles used in western medicine for procedures such as blood tests and injections. It is said that they are as thin as a human hair.

When acupuncture needles are first inserted, a sensation is normally felt by the patient; this can be described as an electrical current, tingling or dull ache.

Cupping

A method of treatment using glass, silicon or suction cups.

Usually placed on areas of the body such as the shoulders,  back and thighs. The suction enhances blood circulation in the area, and as a result can help treat pain, muscle stiffness and the common cold.

The suction cups are normally left on the skin for a few minutes or can be glided with body oil from one part to another. Round marks, similar to a bruise, can be left on the skin once the cups are removed and will last for a few days – the marks do not cause any pain and indicate toxins that have been drawn out to the surface of the skin.

Moxibustion

This is the burning of medicated herbs that stimulate healing by expelling cold and warming the channels.

Moxa can be used in various forms such as moxa sticks, direct moxa placed on an acupuncture point or moxa on a needle. When lit, moxa causes heat which penetrates the skin and improves blood circulation and the flow of energy to the area.

Patients report feeling a warm and soothing sensation and usually find it effective for muscular – skeletal problems.

Guasha

A round-edged tool normally made out of bone, horn or jade stone. It is used to scrape the surface of the skin which causes small red dots to appear in the area. This action promotes blood circulation and releases any tension present in the muscles and joints.

Electro – acupuncture

Electro-acupuncture involves a mild electric current which passes between two acupuncture points.

This type of treatment improves blood flow and stimulates acupoints and is normally found effective in the treatment of pain.

Essential oils

An effective treatment modality that uses the therapeutic benefits of pure essential oils and acupuncture points combined.

During treatment, carefully selected essential oils are placed on specific acupoints on the body in order to trigger their energetic effect. This will result in harmonizing the patient’s inner state.

“ I first came to see Debbie for Planter fasciitis and knee pain. I had been suffering from severe pain every time I walked, especially in the mornings, and tried various things such as ongoing stretching and orthotics.

I felt a relief in pain after the first few treatments and today I am pain free. Debbie is a brilliant therapist and I would highly recommend her to any of my friends and family. Thank you!
